City moms are American Legion Auxiliary members who, in some ways, act as a Girls State citizen’s mom/grandma away from home. She helps during Girls State with whatever is needed, including encouraging citizens to run for office, supporting them in activities, and helping citizens feel comfortable being at Girls State.
Applicants should be energetic, motivating, comforting, and approachable. A City Mom is a representative of the American Legion Auxiliary and its principles.
A City Mom will be chosen for each city. City Moms will receive lodging and meals on campus, as well as mileage and parking pass reimbursement for attending Girls State. City Moms should be able to attend Girls State from June 14-19, 2026. We ask staff to please arrive on Saturday, June 13. We also request that City Moms are able to stay where Staters are housed.
Applications for 2026 City Mom are due May 15, 2026, or until all City Mom positions are filled.
